Freight from the USA

The website is a platform that offers international shipping services by utilizing LCL freight from well-known U.S. carriers. Above is the real-time freight calculator for shipping cargo in boxes, crates, and pallets.

Should I insure my cargo when shipping goods from the USA overseas?

Most goods shipped from the USA overseas arrive at their destinations in good condition, without damage or loss.

However, you may consider buying maritime cargo insurance and obtaining an insurance certificate for your international shipment for extra protection.

You can insure your shipment with any insurance provider that covers cargo shipping overseas. Otherwise, you can request that we obtain an insurance certificate for your internationally shipping goods on your behalf through our online freight calculator

If you select this option, the coverage cost will be added to your total shipping cost. When your goods depart the U.S., you will receive your insurance certificate along with our final invoice.

Consider Marine Cargo Insurance options while shipping goods from the USA overseas.

'All risk' and 'Total loss' coverages

The 'All-risk' policy for shipping cargo from the USA covers any possible loss or damage to your international shipment during cargo transportation, such as fire, water damage, theft, partial loss, breakage, etc. It is the most encompassing coverage available in the international cargo transportation industry.

The 'Total loss' only applies to complete losses. That means you can get a premium only if your entire shipment is lost or destroyed. It does not cover partial loss or damage.

Unless stated in your insurance certificate, by default, such certificates obtained on the shipper's behalf are under the 'All risk' policy. However, THE 'ALL RISK' POLICY APPLIES TO SHIP PROFESSIONALLY PACKED GOODS ONLY.

Please remember, 'All risk' policies apply to goods shipping from the USA in the original manufacturers' packaging or professionally packed by certified parties that can provide proof of the professional packing. Certain conditions* may apply. IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND!: NOT PROFESSIONALLY PACKED GOODS TURN AN 'ALL RISK' POLICY INTO A 'TOTAL LOSS' POLICY.

What to do if your cargo is damaged or lost

If your cargo is damaged or lost during international sea shipping, here’s what you need to know and do:

Step 1: Know Your Coverage

Before filing a claim, check:

  • Do you have “All Risk” or “Total Loss” coverage?
  • What is your deductible (the amount you pay before a premium kicks in)?

Important: Who Handles the Claim?

AMID Logistics is not an insurance provider. We are a U.S.-based freight forwarder. While we can help you get an insurance certificate on your behalf, we do not handle claims for damaged or lost cargo. Do not send damage or loss claims to AMID Logistics.

Step 2: Where to Send Your Claim

There are three possible scenarios:

1. You Got Covered Through AMID Logistics

If you asked us to obtain coverage on your behalf, and the policy was issued through one of our partners:

  • Your claim will be handled by the insurance provider’s claims office in the destination country.
  • The certificate lists their contact information and the contact information for their branch in the USA. Check your insurance certificate and contact the claim agent listed.

2. You Got Covered on Your Own (Not Through AMID)

If you used a third-party insurance provider:

  • You must contact your chosen provider directly.
  • They will guide you through their claim process.

3. You Didn't Insure Your Goods:

If your cargo was not insured, and it was damaged or lost:

  • You should file a claim with the agent or terminal that released your cargo at the destination.
  • They will give you a damage claim form.
  • Please note: carrier liability is limited. This means they may only cover part of your loss, not the full value.

Summary

  • Insured through AMID: Use the contact on your insurance certificate
  • Insured independently: Contact your insurance provider
  • Not insured: File a claim with the release agent at the destination
